“Although the right to good health is everybody’s prerogative, millions across the world do not have the access to the most basic healthcare,” said Prof Hamid Ali, department of petroleum studies, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) while attending the World health Day 2019 observations organised by the department of TahaffuziwaSamaji Tib, Faculty of Unani Medicine, AMU.

Speaking as the Chief Guest, he pointed out that underprivileged people are forced to give up on their healthcare in order to meet their daily expenses and this is why the World Health Organisation (WHO) has chosen the theme of ‘Universal Coverage: Everyone, Everywhere’ for this year’s World Health Day.

“Universal Health Coverage is a mission and we have to achieve it,” said Prof Hamid.

Delivering the lecture on ‘Universal health coverage-critique and Rhetoric’, the guest speaker, Dr NafisFaizi (department of community medicine, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College) emphasised, “In the universal health coverage plan, it is imperative to ensure that everyone who needs healthcare service gets it, irrespective of their financial status.”
He added that people who seek healthcare services should be protected from financial risk and good health shouldn’t come at the cost of financial harm.
Presiding over the function, Prof Khalid Zaman Khan (Dean, Faculty of Medicine) highlighted the efforts of WHO and Unani institutes in working for the health of people from lower economic strata.

Prof Syed Mohammad Safdar Ashraf (Chairman, Department of TahaffuziwaSamaji Tib) spoke on the activities carried out by the department of TahaffuziwaSamaji Tib such as health visit in DDU government hospital, involvement in the works of AMU sewage treatment plant in BroalaJafarabad and providing services in the Rural Health Center, Jawan, Aligarh.

Prof M Wamiq Ameen, Prof Asia Sultana, Dr. Zamir Ahmad, Dr Ammar Ibn Anwar, Dr Ataullah Fahad, Dr. M Sad Khan and Dr Sana Taufiq also spoke on the occasion.

‘Hifzane Sehat’, a book on how to reach health goals was released by the guests and prizes were distributed to participants of various competitions.

Dr. Mohammad Aslam conducted the programme, while Dr. Abdul Aziz Khan proposed the vote of thanks.
